Information Available Concerning the Fatalities of the Bondi Terror Attack

A minimum of 16 individuals perished and more than 40 were wounded when assailants shot at a Hanukkah gathering at Bondi Beach, an attack local authorities have called a act of terrorism.

According to the most recent information, officials have stated the number of fatalities stands at 16, which includes one of the suspected attackers. Furthermore, 42 wounded individuals were admitted to hospital.

The victims have not yet been publicly named, but police believe their ages span between 10 and 87 years old.

Listed are the victims who are known so far.

Eli Schlanger

Originally from London clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first victim to be named.

Described as a father-of-five, he worked as the associate rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and friends remembered him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very kind and sociable person who was dedicated to assisting others”.

“How can a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?” a family member said.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the birth of their youngest child just a few months ago.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, according to his wife.

She recounted the moments before the attack, explaining they had been standing together when the gunfire erupted. “He shielded me because he wished to be near me,” she stated.

The couple were both Holocaust survivors, having experienced immense hardship in their childhood. They had later relocated to Australia from Ukraine.

Dan Elkayam

French foreign ministry have confirmed that French man Dan Elkayam is a casualty.

Officially, the Foreign Minister declared that France shared the grief of his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This cowardly attack is a new, tragic manifestation of a disgusting rise of antisemitic hatred that we must eradicate,” the statement read.

One Child

A 10-year-old girl who was rushed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital has been confirmed among the fatalities, police have confirmed.

One Israeli Citizen

A national of Israel was a fatality in the incident, according to reports citing the Israeli government.

Those Injured

Of the 42 people taken to hospitals, a significant number are still under care, with five in critical condition. The injured include two officers who attended the scene.

One of the injured is a bystander who rushed to the scene to tackle one of the attackers. Called a local hero, he received gunshot wounds but is recovering well in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. Reports indicate he was injured and underwent treatment in hospital.

Communicating, he described the scene as an “horrific scene,” but also praised the actions of those who rushed to help. He stated he felt it was a “stroke of luck” he was alive.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was another casualty in the attack. He described he listened to “a large number” of shots.

“Initially, I believed it was rubber bullets, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I’ve been shot myself. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
