World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight year.

The twenty-seven-year-old captured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – including successfully defending the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles triumph.

A Year of High Performance

Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine championship matches, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.

The star player also claimed victory at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the world number one, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.

In July, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.

Record-Breaking Numbers

Sabalenka concluded the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and earned a historic £11m in earnings.

She received almost eighty percent of the votes cast by international tennis media.

On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "raise women's tennis to a higher level".

• Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking a extended hiatus after the arrival of her first child and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
• Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after beginning the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and climbing to world number 18.
• Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after capturing their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
• Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five finals.

Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third consecutive time.
